Just Shoot Me Here: A Conversation with Shwe Tun Aung

June 23 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Burmese Cowboy is the tale of seaman Shwe Tun Aung and his journey on vessels across the seas, opposing corrupt ship owners and a dangerous government, while risking his own life for what was fair for not only himself, but seamen the world over. He tells the amazing story of how his life was destroyed, but how global union solidarity helped rebuild it.

After the film, we will have a conversation with Mr. Aung and representatives from the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) about what obstacles modern seafarers face in trying to deliver 90% of the goods we use globally. From non-usable toilets to being abandoned on a derelict ship in a foreign port, the people who transport our goods are vulnerable to danger, harassment and attacks. The ITF works to ensure their continued safety.

Lastly, we will watch another short film celebrating the ITF Seafarer’s Trust Association Life at Sea 2022 Photo Contest winners. These engaging and highly personal photos tell tales of adventure, friendship, and loneliness at sea.
