WEWAK 
FUEL PILE NEAR STRIP. Here advantage has been taken of natural vegetation. A square fuel pit is located lower left corner. This type small fuel dump is commonly found close to the strip at advanced airfields. The fuel drums are either stacked in dispersal areas, dumped in irregular piles, or placed in varying size pits. Quite often the pits and piles may be camouflaged with earth or sod and palm fronds.

RABAUL 
(1) STACKS AND CRATED SUPPLIES LOCATED IN OPEN.  The neat stacking Is a notable feature. This type of crate, often found stacked in long, neat rows probably contain bombs or shells. The buildings and tents in right background are for personnel. Note the tanks, one with canvas cover, near partially completed building and at left of the photograph.

(2) FUEL PILE AND CANVAS-COVERED SUPPLIES ON DOCK. The canvas-covered supplies are placed on lumber for protection from damp ground. Some crated supplies are distinguishable. The large, square boxes in center foreground and background may contain aircraft motors.
