The masts of Hyde Street Pier’s ships – proudly marking the waterfront – are a comforting sight to all Bay Area residents. They attest to our shared maritime history, our distinct closeness to the water, and our enduring adventurous spirit. Arguably the most unique of all the National Parks, the Maritime Park is a cherished, established part of San Francisco’s past and current landscape. One would like to believe that this slice of our local culture will always be there for us to enjoy and share with future generations, but as you know, the Park and its vessels are in fact preserved through hard work and generous contributions from dedicated individuals like yourself.
For example, your gift of:
· $1,000 will help support our Sea Letter publication,
· $250 will provide scholarships for 10 at-risk students to attend our Age of Sail program aboard Balclutha, and
· $100 will provide materials for a Pampanito science program
Overall, it’s been a great year; with new and energized staff and trustees onboard and unique opportunities on the Bay, the Association has doubled its membership base, hosted a highly successful fundraising Gala, and expanded its education department.
This past year alone we welcomed over 15,000 school-age children to discover the romance, challenges and realities of life on a tall ship, and the science of operating a submarine. Furthermore, this summer marked the return of our semi-annual publication, Sea Letter, a favorite amongst our members. With beautiful photographs and delightfully detailed articles, this magazine is a testament to the revitalization of our organization and our dedication to bringing maritime enthusiasts closer to seafaring culture.
In addition to your annual membership, this yearly appeal provides necessary funds to sustain our mission. There is no better time to support our Parks and their programs – our irreplaceable local treasures – and the subtle but enormous impact they have on our daily lives. Now is your chance to help us keep maritime history alive for generations to come, please donate to our annual fund today.
