UNDERGROUND STORAGE
SAIPAN
(1) Underground Oil Storage. These huge oil tanks are sunk in a hillside and well protected and camouflaged by sod and vegetation. However, the distinctive circular shape and the 'radius' path leading to inlet valves in their centers make such installations quite easy to detect. This type of oil storage is normally only found at the larger 'inner bases'. In the center of the stereo a well-camouflaged half-buried building is probably a storage area for the seaplane base at the bottom of the stereo. Many such hillsides also contain underground storage facilities.

TENIAN
(2) Concrete underground storage area with fuel drums scattered aria slacked on roof. Such installations are primarily for explosive or highly inflammable materials. Note the narrow gauge railroad and the wide road leading into the unit.
